About the Role
ShowPhaze is looking for a product-minded App Developer to take ownership of and evolve our internal platform into a refined, scalable system. This role goes beyond writing code - you’ll be expected to understand the full scope of our business by working closely with every department, from finance to operations.
Our app is mission-critical. It powers scheduling, contractor communication, payroll, estimates, invoicing, and on-site workflows for large-scale event productions nationwide.
The foundation is solid. Now we need someone who can bring structure, clarity, and a cohesive user experience to what has historically been built in pieces.
What You’ll Work On
- Improve and unify the overall UX/UI across the platform
- Refactor and organize existing features into a more intentional system architecture
- Enhance core functionality:
- Scheduling and crew coordination
- Contractor communications (in-app chat, SMS, email notifications)
- Payroll workflows
- Estimates and invoicing
- QR code check-in systems
- Identify and eliminate friction points that slow down operations
- Collaborate with leadership to define product direction and roadmap
- Integrate AI-assisted workflows (including Claude) into development and operations
- Contribute to a “vibe coding” workflow—rapidly translating operational needs into functional product improvements
- Work alongside or coordinate with external developers when needed to maintain steady progress
Current State of the Product
- The platform is stable and has never experienced a full crash
- Issues do arise but are typically resolved quickly
- Feature set is robust, but the UX can be fragmented and inefficient
- Development has historically lacked a unified long-term plan
- We are actively shifting toward a more structured, product-driven approach with guidance from an advisor
What We’re Looking For
Core Experience
- Professional Experience: Minimum 5+ years of proven experience in Backend Development (4+ years if demonstrating exceptional seniority in architectural design) and minimum 3+ years of proven experience in FrontEnd Development.
- Node.js Ecosystem: Expert proficiency in Node.js and Express, building APIs and integrating with 3rd party systems.
- React Ecosystem: Working experience in FE development (css/js/html) using React (NextJS is a plus).
- Database Management: Strong experience with NoSQL databases, specifically MongoDB and Mongoose ODM. Must be capable of query optimization and schema design for high-load environments.
- Infrastructure & Cloud: Deep understanding of AWS Services (S3 for storage, CloudFront for content delivery, EKS for orchestration, and SES/SNS for messaging).
- Performance Tooling: Proficiency with Redis for caching and session management.
- Legacy Management: Experience refactoring monolithic codebases, supporting API versioning, and replacing legacy libraries (e.g., migrating from Moment.js to modern alternatives).
Advanced Competencies (Nice to Have):
- Networking: Understanding of CDNs, cache control headers, and cloud-based networking.
- DevOps: Experience building and optimizing CI/CD pipelines.
- Security Mastery: Proven experience with application security (e.g. API authentication), managing CVEs, scheduling framework migrations, and setting up WAF/DDoS protections.
How You’ll Get Up to Speed
To be effective, you’ll need to understand how ShowPhaze operates at every level. That means:
- Spending time with operations, finance, and field workflows
- Observing how crews are scheduled, managed, and paid
- Identifying where the app helps—and where it slows things down
We don’t expect you to guess. We expect you to learn the system from the inside out.
Work Environment
- Fully remote role with flexibility
- Opportunity (and strong encouragement) to spend time onsite in Austin, Texas
- Onsite experience includes:
- Direct collaboration with the core team
- Immersion in company workflows and culture
- Access to ShowPhaze HQ amenities:
- Cabins for lodging
- Swimming pool, fishing pond
- Access to a 600-acre recreational park (cycling, basketball, etc.)
- And yes—BBQ, breakfast tacos, and time on the water
Industry Context
ShowPhaze operates in the live event production space — a fast-paced, high-demand environment where timing and execution are critical.
- Spring and fall are peak seasons
- Expect periods of high intensity and deep focus
- The work you do directly impacts real-time operations in the field
Why This Role Matters
This position is central to the future of ShowPhaze. The platform you help shape will:
- Improve operational efficiency across the company
- Strengthen relationships with contractors and clients
- Serve as the foundation for a future SaaS product
You’ll be joining a small, highly dynamic team with the opportunity to build something meaningful — and see it used at scale in real-world environments.
If you’re someone who can bring order to complexity, improve systems with intention, and build for both usability and scale, this is a role worth stepping into.
