About the team: 

The Product Engineering Team at StudentCrowd owns the StudentCrowd main website and all supporting systems that power our consumer products and internal tools.

The team works closely with our Dataset Team, which curates data on every UK student accommodation provider (100% coverage), plus growing international datasets across France, Europe, and soon the US.

This team handles everything from data ingestion (ETL) and modelling to visualisation and reporting — with a strong focus on performance, data quality, and governance.

The team also maintains several key services:

• Content Service – used by our internal team to publish and manage editorial content.
• User Service – our unified login and authentication system across all StudentCrowd apps.

Beyond the application layer, the team owns much of our engineering infrastructure and tooling:

• Bitbucket Pipelines and CI/CD
• Pulumi for infrastructure-as-code
• Kubernetes (GKE Autopilot)
• GCP resource configuration (projects, quotas, networking, databases)
• Cloudflare WAF and Zero Trust setup

What we’re looking for

We are hiring senior fullstack engineers with 7–8+ years of professional experience building and operating production systems end-to-end.

Core requirements

• 7–8+ years of professional full-stack development experience
• Strong expertise in PHP (Symfony and/or Laravel)
• Strong proficiency in modern JavaScript/TypeScript, including React
• Solid MySQL experience (query optimisation, schema design, performance)
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices
• Proven ownership of complex systems or features end-to-end
• Experience working across both frontend and backend (true fullstack)
• Familiarity with Elasticsearch or similar search technologies
• Strong communication skills in English (written and spoken)
• Strong engineering practices (testing, code reviews, quality mindset)

Nice to have

• GCP, BigQuery, Kubernetes, Pulumi
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
• CI/CD and DevOps experience
